The Challenge
Give Afghan-owned businesses across Canada one place to be found — and give the community a multilingual way to discover them.
Afghan-owned businesses across Canada — restaurants, grocery stores, boutiques, professional services — had no single place where the community could find them. Someone new to a city, or even someone who'd lived there for years, had no easy way to know which businesses nearby were Afghan-owned. Business owners had no dedicated platform built for their community, and no simple way to get visibility beyond word of mouth. On top of that, the Afghan Canadian community spans multiple languages. A directory built only in English would leave out a large part of the audience it was meant to serve. The client needed something that worked as a real community tool, not just a business listing app — with events, announcements, and a way to keep the whole thing organized and moderated as it grew.
Our Approach
We designed and built the Afghan Business Directory from the ground up — as a mobile app for iOS and Android, a public website, and an admin panel to manage it all. We kept the design clean and simple on purpose. For a community-focused app, the priority was making it easy for someone to open it, find what they need, and get on with their day.
Users can find businesses by name, category, or location in seconds.
Address, phone number, website, and service descriptions give customers everything they need to make contact.

Outcomes
The iOS app is live on the App Store, with the Android version following shortly after. The website is live and fully functional, giving the platform reach beyond just app users. The result is the first dedicated platform of its kind for Afghan-owned businesses in Canada — a tool that gives business owners real visibility in their own community, and gives community members a straightforward way to find and support them. The multi-language setup means the platform actually works for the people it's meant for, instead of assuming everyone reads English.
